The clash of Fulham v Aston Villa is set to kick off on Saturday this weekend for a decisive campaign.
Aston Villa is back in action for one of the crucial games of their season. They are visiting Craven Cottage this weekend to take on the mid-table side, Fulham.
Villa is currently fourth with 58 points in hand. They are the frontrunner in the Champions League race alongside Manchester United, with the same 58 points, and Liverpool, with three points adrift from Villa.
Meanwhile, Fulham is sitting on the 12th with 45 points, which are only five points behind Brighton, which sits sixth in the standings. With only five games remaining, both sides will be aiming for maximum points to play in Europe next season.
The Clarets and Blues are only two or even one win away from sealing their Champions League berth next season. On the other hand, The Cottagers are hoping to taste continental competition next season again.
Snatching one spot in the UEFA Conference League at the end of the campaign seems viable target. Finishing eighth or seventh would be the safe place for Marco Silva’s men.
Thus, Aston Villa would need to be careful not to slip or, even worse, stumble in London, as Fulham could bring a threat. Their last outing versus Sunderland last weekend displays how Unai Emery’s defence is not always as solid as expected.
Their defensive frailties can become an issue. Villa would need to strengthen their backline, avoid unnecessary blunders and, most importantly, keep up their work on their attacking line.
Their frontline is currently on fire, with Ollie Watkins being motivated for chasing his next milestone after netting his 100th goal for the Lions; Morgan Rogers is back on the scoresheet; Emi Buendia remains in form; and Tammy Abraham slowly improves his performance as he made direct contributions to the goals in his last two appearances.
Fulham v Aston Villa is staged at 12.30 UK time on Saturday, April 25. It is the earliest game held on that day. The other matches start at 15.00, which includes Liverpool v Crystal Palace, Wolves v Tottenham and West Ham v Everton. Meanwhile, the important clash between Arsenal and Newcastle United will kick off at 17.30.
