Kishangarh Marble Dumping Yard: The “Snow” of Rajasthan

Our trip to the marble dump yard in Kishangarh, Rajasthan was fascinating. I visited it with my daughter Chhavi.

We visited Kishangarh on a whim because it had a Palace hotel, the Phool Mahal Palace, and it had a small town vibe. And that usually is enough for me to try any new place. Also, it helps that it is on the Delhi Ajmer Shatabdi and Vande Bharat route.

Once we reached, the question was what to do at Kishangarh? Everyone recommended the marble slurry dumping yard. But why would anyone visit a dumping yard? So, let me tell your why we visited the marble dumping yard. Kishangarh as a huge marble industry. Marble as we have see it comes in forms of tiles or decorations. But marble actually comes out in huge chunks, and it is then cut using water to desired shape. So, there is a white dust like substance, slurry, comes out that is a waste product and it is dumped.

The marble industry purchased large area from the government and started dumping the waste material there and bit by bit over the years the whole place turned white and with patches of water as well. So, in Kishangarh which is a dry hot area has this place that is completely white, it looks like snow. Slowly people started visiting the place and enjoying their time taking cool pictures. It’s fame spread and now the place is popular with tourists.

Chhavi and I had a good time there, clicking pictures and goofing around. Jeep rides were being offered but we gave it a miss. There are small shops around the place.

We had tea, Chhavi bought a bought a jacket. Who could have thought that that dumping yard will turn out to be the top tourist attraction at a place!

The only thing we really want is that we the people of India develop better civic sense. People spit pan in this white space and throw plastic water bottles also all around.
