Full List: Poundland Announces More Store Closures Across the UK as Restructuring Continues

The discount retailer Poundland has confirmed another wave of store closures across the United Kingdom.

An additional 14 locations are scheduled to shut their doors by early February of next year.

This new batch is in addition to 18 other shops whose closures had been previously announced and are still pending.

These stores have now launched clearance sales, with discounts of up to 40 percent on a wide range of products.

The sale includes homeware, groceries, clothing, and beauty items as the shops liquidate their stock.

Total Closures to Exceed 100 Stores

This latest decision means Poundland will have shuttered more than 100 shops in the UK by early 2025.

The company had already closed 57 of its least profitable locations by the end of September.

Another 40 stores were closed earlier after their respective landlords chose to terminate the property leases.

The chain, which began its restructuring program with approximately 800 stores, is targeting a reduced footprint of between 650 and 700 shops.

Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK country manager, addressed the disappointment of leaving communities.

“We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store,” MacDonald stated.

He added, “but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.”

Company Focuses on Simplified Pricing and Operations

Poundland’s restructuring follows its sale to investment firm Gordon Brothers for just £1 in June.

The company narrowly avoided administration after a High Court approved its recovery plan in August.

Since the rescue, management has focused on simplifying the entire business model.

A key part of this strategy involves a major overhaul of the retailer’s pricing structure across the UK.

The company is reverting to a straightforward £1, £2, and £3 price point model for its grocery items.

Approximately 60 percent of grocery products will now carry the £1 price tag.

This simplified pricing is also being rolled out across its general merchandise and clothing ranges.

“We look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK,” MacDonald said.

The newly announced stores set for closure include locations in Lancaster, Weston-Super-Mare, Liverpool, and Coatbridge in Scotland, among others.
