Murkage Dave Details Forthcoming Album Brut Thoughts, Shares Emotionally Raw Single ‘RNA’

Murkage Dave has confirmed his highly anticipated forthcoming album, Brut Thoughts, is slated for release on March 6th, 2026. The record will be the first released on The Outlet, Dave’s newly formed imprint in partnership with !K7 Music. Alongside the announcement, Dave shared the tender and intimate new single, “RNA.” The track, produced by Kiddus and featuring backing vocals from Young Fathers and Kiddus, explores complex themes of masculinity, grief, and resilience amidst the pressures of modern existence. The single follows the success of his previously released track, “Swordfight In A Chicken Shop,” which garnered widespread support from BBC Radio 6 Music and Clash magazine.

Of the single, he states,

This song spilled out of me across several months, watching my dad get ill, and then dealing with his passing. It’s funny but I learned so much about him I didn’t know during this time. It was bittersweet.

The idea of being a ‘real man’ is often connected to physical strength, wielding power and not showing emotion. But for me being real can be about other things; it can be about owning your weaknesses and insecurities, being able to talk these things through. Wanting to do better. It can be about being able to admit when you just can’t take it any more, but still somehow gathering the strength to keep going.

The new album, Brut Thoughts, promises to anchor the emotional and political landscape of Dave’s work, connecting his personal inner turmoil with the fragmented world around him. Dave channels the anger and disillusionment of late capitalism into a sound he describes as “millennial meme culture music,” dealing with everything from overstimulation and internet culture to immigration and political extremism, while refusing to lose sight of the possibility of hope. Sonically, the album sits between outsider pop and political realism, drawing inspiration from eclectic sources like Talking Heads, Sampha, The Smiths, and The Streets.

The title itself is deeply layered, referencing the French meaning of “raw” and the English meaning of “unsweetened” to convey unfiltered honesty. It also pays homage to Jean Dubuffet’s Art Brut movement, a celebration of raw, untrained creativity, while simultaneously citing the classic Brut fragrance, a nostalgic scent tied to the working-class masculinity of his grandad’s and father’s generation.
