Katie Schecter Announces ‘Empress,’ a Personal Chronicle of Femininity

Nashville-based artist Katie Schecter has confirmed her new album, Empress, will be released on October 17. The record was created during a deeply personal and pivotal time for Schecter, as she recorded it live to tape at New York City’s legendary Diamond Mine Studio while pregnant with her daughter. This unique experience instilled in her a transcendent sense of femininity and a new appreciation for her imperfections, leading her to view the album as a lasting gift and a form of personal archaeology.

Alongside the album announcement, Schecter has released the new single, “Run River Run.” The track is a hypnotic and soulful ride, defined by a cinematic sophistication that effortlessly blends elements of rock, pop, and soul.

Of the single, Scheter states,

‘Run River Run’ is about bypassing self-doubt and the art of resilience, inspired by the master himself, Bruce Lee, it is about gracefully moving with and around life’s challenges rather than confronting them head on, and occasionally looking back to see how much I’ve overcome by going with the flow.

Produced by her husband, Nick Bockrath of Cage The Elephant, the album features a formidable rhythm section of Nick Movshon and Homer Steinweiss, known for their work with a host of celebrated artists, including The Arcs and The Black Keys. The album’s sound is further enriched by contributions from Russ Pahl on pedal steel and Leon Michels on piano.
