Manchester United are reportedly leading the race for Benjamin Sesko’s signature, potentially beating Newcastle United’s interest. Both teams are keen on signing the RB Leipzig attacker, but the player seems to prefer the Red Devils instead.
The Red Devils’ quest for a new striker this summer looks to find a solution in the form of Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian international has become Man United’s target to lead their attacking department for the upcoming season.
United are not alone in their chase for Sesko’s signature, as Newcastle United have also identified the Leipzig star as their main target up front. According to the latest report, the Bundesliga side have accepted the Magpies’ bid, but is still pondering over Man U’s offer.
Newcastle reportedly made an 85 million euros proposal (including bonuses), while Man United’s offer is 5 million euros short of their rival. However, both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein stated that the player preferred to play for Man United instead.
Following a reportedly positive response from Sesko, Ruben Amorim’s side are now confident in securing the 22-year-old attacker’s signature. Nevertheless, Man U must be able to strike an agreement with Leipzig first before they can go further.
United’s decision to snatch another young striker does create a unique situation as they still have the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who both have struggled at the club so far. Should Sesko’s move materialize, one of Hojlund or Zirkzee will likely be moving, with the former being the most likely candidate to go.
